Locata’s Spring Housing Event attracts wide support

Housing officers from more than 25 local authority and housing association organisations in the North West attended Locata’s inaugural Spring Housing Event in Manchester on May 20.

Andy Gale, Housing Consultant and former DCLG Practitioner Adviser for local authorities, was the key note speaker.  He discussed the new prevention of homelessness duty on English local authorities that is looking increasingly likely to be introduced by the Government. A full report on his presentation is available here.

Delegates also heard presentations from Anne Duffield from Northwards Housing on the development of the Manchester Move service and Matthew Wainwright from First Choice Homes Oldham on the recent success relaunch of its scheme.

Peter Riley, Managing Director of Locata, gave an overview of Locata’s growth from a simple choice based lettings system working for a single scheme 15 years ago to a business with 45 products in its portfolio serving 23 schemes nationwide formed from 82 local authorities and hundreds of housing associations.

Peter also gave delegates a quick glimpse into the future with an overview of some of the new innovations Locata is currently working on or considering launching.

One piece of new software currently being developed is an intuitive system that will support housing officers implement the new duty to prevent homelessness that is expected to be announced by the Government soon.

Kate Nash, from Sector UK (Locata’s IT developers), gave a demonstration of the new system given our current understanding of how the new duty is likely to work.
